Using the Pattern Library
- Designer: Make a list: user goals, organizational goals
- Designer: Look thru the templates in the pattern library for the one that matches your goals the closest. This will be your starting point. You can add, switch out, or customize the elements in this template.
- Designer: Look thru the pattern library for smaller building blocks, which we refer to as modules. Identify any that you might want to use on your page.
- The designer should then present these to the developer who can create a prototype by duplicating and editing the desired template. The developer can use the html building blocks from the pattern library to create a new design.
- The designer will sit with the developer and work together to tweak the new page using the different variations or options available in the pattern library. They should also discuss how the page should function once it is implemented.
- Once the developer has an html prototype, they can work towards integrating it with their content management system’s templates or with any other technology used on their website.
